Dutch Blonde Craft Beers

Over the past decade, various craft beer fans from St Maarten came together in the Caribbean Brewing Company and started experimenting with a craft beer taste that would truly represent the Caribbean island of St Maarten / St Martin. As the new brewery was located on Dutch side Sint Maarten, the long royal tradition of Dutch beer brewing almost naturally merged into the wide array of fruits available in the Caribbean.

Dutch Blonde Beer was its foremost result. As the St Maarten home brew product became more known over the islands of the northeastern Caribbean, its international break through came with a silver international prize at the 2021 London Beer competition, as the top – ranking Caribbean entry and the first beer from the Dutch Caribbean receiving an international prize. The jury’s verdict on the award-winning Dutch Blonde Ale was “fruity and spicy with honey, orange and clove flavours. Overall, very complex and refreshing.” See here for news paper articles about this unexpected coronation.

Only shortly before, Dutch Blonde got a sister beer in the 18.63 IPA. 18.63 stands for the degrees on which sailors can find the island of St Maarten on the map.

In addition, Dutch Blonde Beer was to open a landmark beer location on St Maarten Capital Philipsburg’s famed boardwalk – in an iconic Dutch type windmill!
